The 2010-P $1 Abraham Lincoln Dollar is part of the Presidential Dollar Series, which was issued by the United States Mint from 2007 to 2016 to honor former U.S. presidents. This specific coin, struck at the Philadelphia Mint (P mint mark), commemorates the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln (1809–1865), who played a pivotal role in preserving the Union during the Civil War and abolishing slavery.
The obverse of the coin, designed by Don Everhart, features a portrait of Abraham Lincoln, with his name inscribed along the rim and the years of his presidency (1861–1865). The reverse, common to all Presidential Dollars, showcases the Statue of Liberty, also designed by Everhart, along with the denomination "$1."
One of the key attributes of the Presidential Dollar series is the edge lettering, which includes the year, mint mark, and the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM." The 2010-P Abraham Lincoln Dollar exists in two orientations—Position A and Position B—depending on how the edge lettering was applied.
- Position A: The edge lettering reads correctly when the portrait side (obverse) is facing down.
- Position B: The edge lettering reads correctly when the portrait side (obverse) is facing up.
The AU58 (Almost Uncirculated 58) grade indicates that the coin has only slight traces of wear and retains nearly all of its original luster. This makes it an attractive option for collectors looking for high-quality examples of the Lincoln Presidential Dollar without paying the premium for a Mint State (MS) coin.
Appreciation Over 10 Years
Over the last decade, the 2010-P $1 Abraham Lincoln Dollar (Position A, AU58) has shown a steady increase in value, particularly among collectors of Presidential Dollars and Lincoln memorabilia. In 2014, an AU58 specimen was valued at around $5–$10, as the coin was still relatively new to the market. However, by 2024, collector demand has significantly pushed prices higher, especially for well-preserved examples with strong edge lettering and minimal wear.
Currently, higher-grade AU58 and MS60+ specimens can fetch between $50–$200, depending on their condition and market trends. This marks an increase of over 1,500% for select specimens, with certain high-quality examples seeing even greater appreciation due to the sustained interest in Abraham Lincoln collectibles and the Presidential Dollar series.
As the Presidential Dollar program is no longer in circulation and demand for historical numismatic pieces continues to grow, the 2010-P Lincoln Dollar (Position A, AU58) is expected to maintain its value appreciation over the coming years, making it a solid long-term investment for collectors.
